The function of turbocharger impeller

The function of the turbocharger impeller is to use the energy of the exhaust gas to compress the intake air, increase the intake volume, and send the high-density mixed gas into the combustion chamber for combustion to increase the engine’s output power and increase the engine’s torque, thereby increasing the engine’s power.

Why does the turbocharger impeller need to be dynamically balanced? The turbocharger is actually an air compressor that increases the intake volume by compressing air. It uses the inertial impact of the exhaust gas discharged by the engine to drive the turbine in the turbine chamber. The turbine drives the coaxial impeller, and the impeller presses the air sent by the air filter pipe to pressurize it into the cylinder. When the engine speed increases, the exhaust gas discharge speed and the turbine speed also increase synchronously, and the impeller compresses more air into the cylinder. The increase in air pressure and density can burn more fuel. The corresponding increase in fuel volume and adjustment of the engine speed can increase the engine’s output power.

The engine exhaust turbocharger is now widely used. The turbocharger rotor shaft is used in a high-speed operation environment, with a speed of 10,000 to more than 200,000 revolutions per minute. Under this high-speed rotation, dynamic balancing must be done. Through the turbocharger dynamic balancing machine, efficient dynamic balancing detection can be achieved.

The turbocharger impeller rotor shaft and body refer to forgings with sufficient mechanical strength to withstand the torque transmitted by the prime mover and the huge electromagnetic torque of the sudden short circuit at the generator outlet, and have good magnetic conductivity, which is the carrier of the main magnetic pole of the generator.

With the continuous development of automotive turbocharging technology, the current operating speed of the turbocharger rotor assembly can reach 60000r/min to 240000r/min. As the core component of the supercharger, the supercharger rotor will cause greater vibration and noise during high-speed rotation, which will directly lead to wear of the floating bearing, thrust bearing and even sealing parts, thereby reducing the service life of the supercharger and burying hidden dangers for safe driving. Therefore, it is necessary to perform dynamic balancing detection and correction on the turbocharger rotor.
