Oil leakage often occurs during the operation of the turbocharger

The causes of oil leakage are introduced as follows:

Currently, turbochargers for various diesel engine applications generally adopt a fully floating bearing structure. When the rotor shaft rotates at high speed, the lubricating oil with a pressure of 250 to 400MPa fills these gaps, causing the floating bearing to rotate in the same direction as the rotor shaft under the inner and outer layers of oil film, but its speed is much lower than that of the rotor shaft. . Due to the formation of a double-layer oil film, it is easy to cause oil leakage in the turbocharger, accelerate the wear between the bearings, rotor shafts, and casings, resulting in damage to the turbocharger and reduced diesel engine performance.

1. Sealing ring wear and failure

Because it is difficult to keep the lubricating oil and air entering the turbocharger clean, and the radial clearance of the turbo shaft is too large, it will cause serious wear of the sealing ring and ring groove, and the sealing effect will be lost. In addition, failed lubricating oil will cause the sealing ring to gradually lose its air-sealing and oil-sealing functions, causing oil leakage.

2. Improper installation or damage

There are two sealing rings installed in the grooves at the compressor end and turbo impeller end. If the openings of the two adjacent rings are not staggered by 180° from each other during assembly, it will easily cause oil leakage in the turbocharger. The turbocharger sealing ring is fixed on the casing by elastic force. When the elastic force decreases, the turbocharger drive shaft will move back and forth, changing the lateral gap between the seal ring and the annular groove on the drive shaft, causing the ring end face to wear, resulting in turbocharger leaks oil.

3. The inlet pressure is too high

Generally, the inlet pressure of turbocharger lubricating oil is normally 250-400kPa. When the inlet oil pressure is higher than 600kPa, the high pressure will cause the lubricating oil to leak from the sealing device to the turbo end.
