How is a turbocharger made?

A turbocharger is actually an air compressor that increases the intake volume by compressing air. It uses the inertial impact of the exhaust gas discharged by the engine to drive the turbine in the turbine chamber. The turbine drives the coaxial impeller, which presses the air sent from the air filter pipe to pressurize it into the cylinder. When the engine speed increases, the exhaust gas discharge speed and the turbine speed also increase synchronously, and the impeller compresses more air into the cylinder. The increase in air pressure and density can burn more fuel. Increasing the amount of fuel and adjusting the engine speed accordingly can increase the engine’s output power.

Therefore, the turbocharger is relatively “expensive” and has greater requirements for oil products than ordinary naturally aspirated engines. Most of the oil burning phenomenon is due to the damage of the oil seal between it and the intake pipe. Because the main shaft of the turbocharger adopts a floating design, the entire main shaft relies on lubricating oil for heat dissipation and lubrication. If inferior oil is used, it will cause the floating turbine main shaft to fail to lubricate and dissipate heat normally due to its high viscosity and poor fluidity. Choose a good oil, which has better anti-oxidation, anti-wear, high temperature resistance, lubrication and heat dissipation.

For vehicles using turbochargers, special attention should be paid to timely replacement of oil filters and air filters, and to keep the turbine clean. Generally speaking, the clearance between the turbocharger shaft and the sleeve is very small. If the oil used is impure or the oil filter is not clean, it will cause excessive wear of the turbocharger.
